Which BitTorrent client to recommend?
Hi.
I finally got my hands on BitTorrent. (My wife wants to watch the latest episodes of some Japanese drama.) Looks like there's a whole bunch of BitTorrent clients to choose from. What are your recommendations for Linux (FC6)? I downloaded BitTorrent (gui and console) from Fedora Extras, but it's not the latest version provided by BitTorrent. I did try the latest version, but for some reason the download was very slow. I finally installed Azureus and attempted to download the same file using the same torrent. It's 10+ times faster! So right now, my vote goes to Azureus, but if you guys know of any client that works well on Linux, I'd love to know. TIA! Dai |
unrelated to networking. moved to Linux - Software.

I think Azureus is very good and feature rich. I mainly use KDE, so use Ktorrent quite a lot. The good thing is that it fits in well with the rest of KDE and seems to use less resources than Azureus. I also have been tinkering with deluge (gtk/gnome) and qtorrent (which is very good) but Ktorrent and Azureus are my personal favourites.

I was using Ktorrent and its really nice, but it crashed every once in a while for me. I switched to Azureus and that works quite well

I think azureus is the best out there.

Thanks a lot guys. It's good to know Azureus is regarded highly. I will also try Ktorrent as I am a KDE user too. The more great programs out there, the better. :)
acid_kewpie, Sorry for the trouble. I posted it on Linux Networking thinking BitTorrent would fit into that category. |

I hate azerues it is so slow,
this is a great article about all torrent cilents for ubuntu (review and screenshot) check it out. |
I found azuerus to be a bit heavy as well. I'm a fan of transmission, it seems to be the right mix of features and simplicity for me. I did discover that the ubuntu package only is the cli version which was kind of annoying, since I was used to arch including a gtk gui.

I've used both KTorrent and Azureus and like them equally well. Once they are set up properly, they both seem to perform fine. Regarding the crashing problem with KTorrent, I only noticed it with the older 1.x versions.
