Where does compiler look for libraries when compiling Evolution?
 

When I compile Evolution, I get a long list of warning messages saying that
such-and-such a library "seems to be moved". I'd like to tell the compiler
not to look for libraries in this particular directory, but to look
elsewhere. Where do I do this?

I think the majority of the libraries are Gnome-related. However, I haven't been able to locate where the compiler is getting its no-longer valid information about their location.

Apparently the compiler does succeed in finding the libraries, as the build
generally succeeds. But I'd still like to get rid of all these warning
messages.

Configure commands do the checking to find libraries. Since different distributions have different file trees many configure commands have ways to look for the needed libraries in different likely locations. One common method is to have parameters in the configure command that change the first part of the file paths being used by the configure command. For example if the configure command is looking for files in /usr/local/bin and your distribution has these files in /opt/kde3/lib then you might be able to put a parameter in the configure command to change where configure looks:
./configure --deplib=/opt/kde3/lib

So look in the Evolution configure command and see if you can find a parameter to set which will cause the configure command to look in the right place first and thus eliminate the error messages.

Another method of eliminating the message would be to find the warning message in the configure command and comment it out.
