where can I obtain a driver for a Lexmark 4850 printer?
Having recently installed ubuntu I find I can't connect my Lexmark 4850 all in one printer as there are no Linux drivers included within the software disc. Does anyone know where I may be able to obtain one please?

Things to try:
Lexmark website (I did a quick scan and did not find anything, but it is possible that a driver for another printer might work.)
Google search
Linuxprinting.org
Turboprint
Call Lexmark (nothing to lose)
One thing that caught my eye on Google is Lexmark offering a driver development kit. Promising....
The best for Linux support are HP and Epson. At one point, I perceived that Canon was the worst.

One more thing you can do. Install Gutenprint or Gimpprint and try different Lexmark drivers, you may get lucky.

Have you ever checked out cups drivers? I remember cups+gimp printers can give you the lexmark 4076. You could try it out!
Or, you can try with a z600 driver. I have a z645 lex printer and it works very well, I've installed others printers with the same driver and it've worked, so, nothing to lose!

As soon as possible... I'll translate that into english.

Well, it features in the 'paperweight' column of http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Lexmark, but with the note
Quote:
* User-contributed printer which is not in the Foomatic packages yet. The data ia not yet verified and/or proofread. The printer entry can be edited by everyone.

Try following that link and see wher you get. The suggestion seems to be that someone is working on it, so it may not be hopeless.

Anyone notice this thread is almost 1.5 years old? Anyhow, with OP vanished into the ether, time to close....
