Where Are Vinagre Remote Client Passwords Stored?

Hi, first-time poster to this forum, but not a stranger to tech forums in general. My Google-Fu has failed me on this and some previous posts on this site regarding Vingagre bookmarks is the closest I could find to my problem.

I'm running Linux Mint 17 with Mate 1.8.1. I have Vinagre 3.10.2 installed. Bookmarks work fine and I am able to edit them as needed as suggested in another post in this forum. My problem is I have a remote client where the VNC password was changed, but Vinagre continues to attempt to use the old stored password and I get an authentication error. So far I have tried:

- Deleting the relevant bookmark from Vinagre
- Deleting recent connection history
- Attempting to log in by manually entering the client IP address
- Attempting to change the password on the client back to what it was

All these have failed. At no point do I get any prompt to re-enter the password. My next step, failing any suggestions from this forum, is to uninstall and reinstall Vinagre, but there has got to be a better way.

Any suggestions or comments welcome.

Thanks,
Riff

Hi Riff,

Three years after your question I got the same problem. I don't know about 2015 but today Vinagre uses gnome key-ring to keep the password, so the solution is to install seahorse and delete the password from gnome key-ring.

It is really a shame that, once the authentication failed, Vinagre doesn't ask for user to enter a new password. I'm reporting that on what ever they use.

Regards,

Thank you danielhilst!

I did a DuckDuckGo search for this issue and the first hit was an LQ thread. I was afraid it might have been a thread I started on the topic (that happens often) but it was your solution. I was able to get rid of an outdated password for accessing a test server. A frustrating situation which had me stuck.

Thanks again,

Ken
