Where are "How To" on making WM splash

When you log in to you WM, there's usually a splash screen that comes up that tells you what WM you're logging into. I've gone to download a few cool ones but there aren't really many that strikes me. I'd like to try to do my own instead but I don't know how. I was wondering if there are any "How To" available that you guys may have used that are good.

Also, are there any "How To" on developing stuff for the Gnome Login Manager? I'd like to go and design something for that as well. Please let me know!

Go here and download away. Crack open some of those and see how they're put together.

"GDM theme howto" and the like are likely to come up under google if one were to try ...
