Maybe your harddisk is just bad.
Is it the default kernel that comes with Redhat or have you made a custom kernel for it? I assume you have just one harddisk in there which isn't on any controller card. Is your bios able to recognize the whole harddisk or do you use one of those programs from the hd manufacturers to get it to recognize the whole disk?
Where there any other actions you did before you rebooted and got the kernel panic message?
A little more information might help.
