When Doses booting process ends!

Hi all.

As we know that Booting Process starts as soon as we get a boot loader.

But I would like to know when does this booting process ends?

Weather it ends when I get login screen after checking the demons. OR it will end as soon as it loads

the OS etc .

Please give me some weitage answer for this.

Waiting for replay.

Sunil.

I don't think there's a formal definition of -- or even consensus on -- exactly what booting is.

From your typical end-user's view, the system is booted (`started' might be a more precise term) once he can enter his username into the [gkx]dm prompt.

Kernel hackers might say that the system is booted when init is started.

Boot loader writers might say the system has been booted once the boot loader jumps into the kernel image code.

I think it all depends on your perspective. Visiting #grub and/or #osdevis (both @ freenode) is likely to be helpful.
