I am new to linux, I finally got my wireless card to work. So what is some great software for linux?

I should have specified which apps I was referring to. I was looking for apps that didnt come with the cd bundle. What are desktop apps exactly?

Being I installed everything manually with Gentoo, that gives me plenty of leeway.

If you are looking for good stuff that might not come with your distro that runs native, here's a partial list.

for bittorrent is azureus a good client?

I'm not trying to nit-pick, but what CD. My gentoo cd comes with no apps, so that would make my list valid. If you used redhat or SusE, those comes with hundreds of apps on the cd.

Desktop apps are anything a windows user would want on their computer. I posted mostly server apps since I install Linux on the servers at work.

A better idea might be to post the application you want and we could provide the linux alternative. For instance:
ABC bit torrent for windows. Try Auzures
MSN messenger = AMSN
MS Office = Open Office

etc....

my cd bundle is Mandrake 10.1 download version.

I really should be much more specific with my questions. I was so excited that I got my internet to work. Haha, anyways if I find a need I will surely ask if there is a ilnux answer.
