what to do about debian apt getting stuck

Hey there,

i foolishly tried to install jedit from a downloaded .deb package without first installing the java package on debian.

now, it failed, but when i try to apt-get anything, it tells me jedit needs to be re-installed but cannot find the archive for it. how do i get it to forget me trying to install jedit? So i can install java, then try again with jedit ?
thanks

Assuming you used dpkg to try the install ... # dpkg remove --purge jedit

Rickh is right. what you did with dpkg you should undo with dpkg. It's a very useful tool for sometimes fixing these recursive dependencies which arise out of broken packages.
