What the best way to create a quicktime in Linux?

I've been using openquicktime 2.0a1 for quite a while. While it *pretty much* does what I want it to, it hasn't been updated in 4 years & does not seem to be compatible with the latest xvid or other recent compressors - audio or video.

Is there a better way to create quicktimes than openquicktime? I just need to be able to convert a sequence of images into a quicktime movie. I'm not married to the quicktime format, but they are pretty widely used in my industry, so there'd need to be a pretty good reason to change.
