What software for creating my own short video

I was hoping someone could suggest some software for tht I could use to do the following. I wish to create a short video (the lengh of a song) with an audio soundtrack (in mp3 format or wav, ogg etc). The video will be a series of photographs and short video clips.

The images will cahnge between the photos and the video clips. I am hoping to have the images fade between each other. I wish to be able to output the video as something viewable in appliatiosn like xine, windows medai player etc.

Preferably the software should be quite easy to use is possable, and be in the form of a time line for the frames etc.

Thanks in advance

Michael

Digikam has some kind of feature like that.
I don't know how sophisticated it is though.
I don't know if it will do fades or if all the
pix have to play for the same amount of time
or what have you. Give them a look.

**EDIT**
It's part of the "kipi" plugin. It's called MpegEncoder.

If you're looking for simpler, you can also try Kino. I suggest you Google for Cinelerra tutorials, if you already have Cinelerra. Theres a bit of a learning curve, but it's very powerful.

kino is not what I am looking for. Kino only esith dv files all the videos I have are in mpeg format. I initially tried kino thinkign it as what I was after but its only for grabbing video from vidio cameras and encoding the video.

Any other suggestions?

I'm trying to do this too, so I don't have a real answer for you. What I'm in the process of doing is trying to install QDVDAuthor. I don't have it running yet, because I found I needed to install FFmpeg, mjpegtools, MPlayer, libquicktime, JPEG-MMX, avifile, lame, faad2, faac, dvdauthor, dvd-slideshow, libavc1394, librawl1394, libieee1284, libcdio, libdv, libdvdcss, libdvdread, vlc. And I had to upgrade GTK+2 to 2.8.13 (you also need both GTK+-1.2 and GTK+-2.6). I'm sure there will be more as I continue to install these packages.

Some others you might need that I already had installed were netpbm, SoX, sane, xsane, and Ogg Vorbis. I installed vcdimager and K3B for good measure. I guess I'll probably install vamps and qvamps too.

I'm not done yet. I'm sure there'll be other packages I need. It's a harrowing ride. I keep thinking there's got to be an all-in-one package for linux systems that includes everything from frame capture, pull-down, editing, rendering, transcoding, menu-building, etc., to a final set of DVD files ready to burn. I haven't found one, but every promising package I find seems to require a half-dozen other packages that I don't have installed. And some of them don't build all that cleanly.

from looking so far there plenty og video applications around but most of them are too specific, non are a simple video creater like windows movie maker. They a,ll seem to be dealing with pulling video froma camcorder, or splitting an already created video file up.

I may have to settle for racoon show and see what that is like.
