I really want to try out Gentoo, after i tried Mandrake, but it´s 2 windows like...
I´m interested in downloading Gentoo 1.4 optimised for AMD Athlon XP.
No problem here... athlon-xp-1.4-20030731-cd1.iso

I want to download the precompiled portrage in the second CD, because i really have a limited internet connection, and i only have a X GB that i can download, but i dont know what is this second CD???
Is it the i686-1.4-20030803-cd2.iso???

- ftp://gentoo.linux.no/pub/gentoo/rel...4/livecd/i686/

all dist use the same things(i mean progs and kernel) but use diffrent configurations so its up to u to change mandrake to your needs when you install gentoo nothing is going to change kde is the same kde or gnome for that matter you can use diffrent window manager is you dont like the look but changeing dist for that matter is useless

Go to http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml
for information on how to install Gentoo.

Since you have limited bandwidth. I suggest you stick with whatever distribution that you got.
