I create pdf's in Linux on a daily bases. First I create the document in any app that I need a pdf from.
I then print it to a post-script format.
You can convert the ps file into pdf in one of two ways.
first in konqueror select the ps file and right click go to actions and select convert to pdf.
second in a shell type ps2pdf "Post-Script name" "Pdf Name"
Anyhoo that how I do it.
I have no problems to make .pdf ... I simply have NO programm that can DISPLAY a pdf on my PALM !!!
Thats why I need repligo by now. Because repligo is nearly like a .pdf but palm can handle it, with the repligo-viewer. And you have to convert .pdf into the repligo format to view it.
The major difference to adobe is, that repligo viewer is not bad at all. But the adobe viewer (which also does not view .pdf directly, it needs to convert too) is total shit.
So, I have no way of displaying a .pdf or something similar on my palm without using the repligo-thing which is like a printer for windows...
Its very psychological people that poke fun are in themselves very insecure about their own skills.
You won't find the moderators or the brains behind Slackware having the same infantile attitude.
Exactly. I've noticed the Slackware users here are snobs, think they are elite, and not actually into the distro because they like it.
Slackware was the first distro that got me into Linux, I had tried Redhat, Mandrake, and some others, but it made a bad impression of Linux on me. When I tried Slackware, I was amazed.
When first using Slackware, the amount of configuration and customization is pretty overwhelming. Now, I don't think I could ever use another distro, because if I lose any capabilities of customization or configuration that I currently have, I'll probably have to format
As for actual help for Slackware, go to irc.freenode.net#slackware. If you have any problems, even newb issues, EVERYONE in the channel will help you with it, if they aren't helping or getting help from someone else. I try to go there as much as possible to help out
Originally posted by mikieboy Cubase VST or a similar music mixing and editing program then I could ditch Windoze instead of having to install it on my new hard drive.
There is a whole generation of apps "attempting" to replace Cubase and similar.
I don't know exactly what the VST entails.
The combination Ardour, Rosegarden, Audacity could in theory replace Cubase in future.
I don't know - sadly as it stands they are pretty hard to install or to make it work - apart from Audacity.
I've tried Rosegarden. It's good but VST is very full featured. Haven't tried Ardour and Audacity though. I guess I should give them a whirl and check out your post
Adobe CS ... InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator & Acrobat. I work for a small newspaper, so having Adobe apps in linux (especially InDesign) would be most beneficial, because I could do my paper-to-web publishing/updates from linux instead of windows.
I would also like to see Winamp be ported, but its pretty much dead (and there are still very good audio players in linux anyway... AmaroK and JuK are both very good).
