With mickeysoft's reputation I would not be at all surprised to find they do that on purpose in an effort to get people to buy the newer version of their product.
Well, yes, there are, probably deliberate, version compatibility issues but they're a lot easier to deal with.
Don't get me wrong, I would choose Libre Office but, sadly, M$ office is just needed by many, still.

A friend in the legal profession and who uses ms-word a great deal, has said the documents created with Corel's Wordperfect Office Suite are compatible with ms-office, but, then, Corel is in mickeysoft's backpocket and The WP Office Suite is only made for ms-windows.

From what I understand, it has become common to distribute documents as .pdf files, then there is no compatibility problems between, say, OpenOffice and ms-office.

Except for the slight snag that you can't edit them. Easily.

PDF forms, of various kinds, can even be easier to fill-in unber Linux but are usually in some ways tied to the Windows Adobe software.

On the screen recording issue, here's one I recorded using SimpleScreenRecorder and compressed using Handbrake. Looks and sounds great, I think you'll agree.

Compressed - to 520MB... is that a joke?

If so I'll have to miss the punchline as I don't want to wait 22 minutes for it.

I have movies that are not that big!

I would like to see a program called "MediaPortal". Used it actively when I was using Windows. Now unfortunately not to be.

Try Kodi. I used to use MediaPortal, but found it problematic. Kodi is faster and extremely capable.

True, it is big. Keep in mind that there's a lot of motion in this, and that contributes to the large size. The original file was 15.2GB.
Normal screencasts run around 10MB or less for ~20 minutes.

I do not understand the comparison of Irfanview with an image-manipulation package. Display is not an alternative to Irfanview.
If you use gThumb to organize your images, “display” to view them and “convert” to do the rest, I agree, but else, no.

I clone. I have a lot of money into this program and cannot use it. It is for making movies. You animate the people. I would pay for them. Just need them to work with Linux.
