GTA Vice City has Platinum rating for Wine, San Andreas also.

I see. If I remember correctly the days when I started using Mint-9-Gnome and stuck to it for more than an year, I had Wine installed and tried playing FIFA and Vice city both, but had some resolution not supported and cracking sound issues.
It's been a long time though, worthy giving another shot.

Thanks for the heads up. Though I would like to hear from any LQ member who managed to successfully play Vice City in Wine.

I 've been used San Andreas and Vice City games since 2010 like a charm. At first, it was a Cedega install. After that I used wine and now PlayOnLinux.

With TortoiseSVN, there's a setting to have a whitelist of directory trees that TSVN will scan while ignoring the rest. I just set that up to my "projects" directory and all such problems went away. It certainly sucks that you have to do that, but at least it's easily fixed.

With TortoiseGit, I can't say I've ever had that problem at all. It does get updated constantly (somewhat annoyingly frequently, actually ), so maybe it's been fixed since you last tried? Actually, for all I know it may have been fixed by now in TSVN, too, it's been awhile since I did much with SVN.

Media Player Classic (MPC - Home Cinema)

I realize Linux has a ton of video/media players, and they do get the job done, but I've yet to find one I like as much as Media Player Classic.

That's not going to work for my case. I've got most of my SVN's (including a sourceforge one) on my external disc. So I can't go whitelist that disc at all. And trying to stop TSVN through Task Manager has no effect - it simply restarts every time. Even if there's no connection to the net TSVN still keeps all the files in the hidden .svn folder open. Nope for me I rather then just go with a "normal", non-integrated SVN/GIT client, even some IDE's come with similar built-in. So Tortoise is not very much missed.

With you on that. VLC has the capability of playing some more formats with less relying on the OS, but its UI is much less than optimal compared with MPC! At last there's a script to turn on the play/pause on mouse click: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=87590

Another shortcoming of Linux is in the field of electronics.

There is not a good schematic editor and simulator of electronic circuits up to date and easy to use.

gEDA suite is good, but too complicated to use, not easy to do a simulation,Oregano is close to other system simulators,
but there are no models and no support for the Spice models, Neither GSpiceiu or Easy_Spice solve the problem.

Usually I have to use an online simulator when I want to simulate an electronic circuit.

What do you use in windows? Curious as a hobbyist. Maybe it can run in Wine? Otherwise Fedora Spin? Or (hands on) here and?

Of those who I know: Circuit Maker, Electronic Work Bench, two programs already old but you can keep updated, both very easy to use, both had free and commercial versions.

Eagle is schematics and board layout design software only, no practical simulation, has a free, but limited version.

Proteus (very expensive) is an all in one product from schematics to board layout through to simulation on a high level. (There are a lot of hacked versions available for download on line)

Matlab/Simulink provides a graphical editor, customizable block libraries, and solvers for modeling and simulating dynamic systems. It is integrated with MATLAB, enabling you to incorporate MATLAB algorithms into models and export simulation results to MATLAB for further analysis.

LtSpice (a free version is available) a very good and easy to use sim.

MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is a free, integrated toolset for the development of embedded applications employing Microchip's PIC and dsPIC microcontrollers.

NI Multisim (formerly MultiSIM) is an electronic schematic capture and simulation program which is part of a suite of circuit design programs, along with NI Ultiboard. Multisim is one of the few circuit design programs to employ the original Berkeley SPICE based software simulation. (National Instruments aquired Work Bench sometime ago and this is based on the old WorkBench).

Control Studio, a Shareware program easy to use.

Livewire is a sophisticated software package for designing and simulating electronic circuits.
Switches, transistors, diodes, integrated circuits and hundreds of other components can all be connected together to investigate the behaviour of a circuit. A demo version available, works good, but limited in components.

WinSpice which is an off-shoot of the original Berkeley Spice 3.

Most work under wine.

With respect to Fedora Electronic Lab spin, brings the same programs I can install in Linux Mint, with the exception of Ktechlab, apparently not more in the Ubuntu repositories, QuQs, does not appear in the repository either, but I think has no maintenance.

I would like to see Rosetta Stone ported to Linux. It only runs on windows and Mac, and for non tech-savvy Linux users that don't have WINE, this is a dilemma. I was nervous to switch to Linux for fear that I couldn't learn Mandarin lol.

Rosettas work for me, WINE too.

SoundForge... ehh old good wave editor.. got task to create theme song for some flash game checked options installed lmms despite not having midi keyboard or other stuff created semi-decent theme. Closest analogue is frootyloops. Very satisfied with options/effects etc. check it out. I think there is other decent wave edit tools too.
VirtualDubMod.. well linux is "home" for ffmpeg library set so video edit is not a problem. Kdenlive is good stuff like neuro tools. For performance efficient tools i think you need to check something that is mplayer based editors.
Miranda.. used qutim/purple for some time but now when emphaty supports Gtalk/icq/irc etc.. and Skype available i stick to default preinstalled IM. All stuff and candy is present like popups etc.. just check gnome3/unity shell fully installed.
