what process is using a module

hey,

I'm having a problem that my sound module is being used by something and I need to rmmod the nvidia module.

I have closed everyhting that I know I'm running. How can I find out what process is using the module?

I have tried fuser -v /dev/* and that didn't really help.

Is there no way to see what processes are using the module?

Try:

# fuser -v /dev/dsp

Not sure what your trying to do. Nvidia is a graphics module and unrelated to sound AFAIK. If your in a gui, it won't let you rmmod nvidia. You'll get a message that the device or resource is busy. If you boot to a command line, text mode, the nvidia driver either won't load or you'll be able ot rmmod it if it does. You can check with "# lsmod". You might be able to accompolish what you want from the command line once you get rid of the nvidia driver.
