Gnome on Slack/Salix 14.2 ?

You may need to visit this site. But then you will need to shake-off that systemd sickness that plagues the linux trend. Here is a try work around.

I was a gnome lover. But I plan to migrate back to bsd if slackware jumps into the redhat boat called systemd. What happened to M$Window shall happen to linux when so much monopoly dominates. So if you think you can run and enjoy Gnome which is already a paid-ticket-holder in that boat, fully in slackware/salix, then, good luck, hope the links can help.

I don't think it be easy to install Gnome3 in Salix.

I suggest that you install Maté instead, as the Salix repos include a full Maté desktop, but only a few Gnome apps.

In a terminal, simply type:
Code:
sudo slapt-get --install-set mate
Then gdm will allow to choose between Xfce and Maté desktops.

Also, questions about Salix posted in the Salix forum will get more attention by people able to help you with Salix.

PS I didn't see the answer from malekmustaq before posting, but I confirm that installing Maté on Salix is way easier -- And in this case systemd is out of the picture.

thanks, but mate is not what I'm aiming for.

at least now I know that I have to work a bit more to get gnome3 installed.

I'm new and have no idea what systemd is.

thank you.
