When I want to configure fluxspace (./configure) I get the following error:
---snap---
checking for python version... 2.3
checking for python platform... linux2
checking for python >= 2.2... okay
checking for headers required to compile python extensions... found
checking for python-config... no
checking for Py_Initialize in -lpython2.3... no
checking for Py_Finalize in -lpython2.3... no
checking for Py_IsInitialized in -lpython2.3... no
configure: error: Unable to determine proper Python link flags.
I have python 2.2 as well as 2.3, so what could be wrong/missing?
Leon.
EDIT: sorry, there was already a thread, with solution!: get python-config
i have hacked on this problem for two days and finaly solved it. U need two things before fluxspace will configure. First of all set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include ur libpython2.3 or 2.2 etc.
For me its was /usr/local/lib/python2.3/config.
Then get the python-config from this location for ur python version:
Thanks for your 2 days of hacking on it :-)
It solved the python-config bit, but the other errors remain (e.g. -lpython2.3... no).
By the way: I have
python-2.2.2 and
Python-2.3.3
Could this small-p and kapital-P prevent proper upgrading when using rpm's? Because checking the presence of python with rpm -q does depend on using kapital or smal p.
Could having two versions cause any other confusement?
U need python-devel to and yes u need to use python-2.3. Remove the old 2.2 version u dont need it anymore, it can mess up the configure.
Did u set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH? Imo u didnt do that.
Get the python-devel-2.3.3, i use slack so had to rpm2tgz the rpm file. After that just use installpkg and ur done.
