What is your favorite Terminal Emulator?

Hello,

I am just curious what your favorite terminal emulator to use is. Please share your reasons and what features you look for in an emulator.

I tend to favor good old xterm. But that's just me.

I like aterm for transparency but it doesn't like utf8, so I also use uxterm for mutt. mrxvt for general use of multi tabs

aterm is very nice, it needs almost nothing to run and it's very light. Easy to customize too. I used eterm for ages cos I use esetroot for my backgrounds on fluxbox, but I prefer aterm now.

Hello,

What is so nice about aterm? I have only used it maybe 5 times, so I really don't know. What are the differences between it and xterm?

Also, if anyone has statistics on memory usage between the different terminals, please post.

I am surprised that rxvt hasn't gotten more votes so far. I thought that it was a fairly popular terminal emulator, and one that many others were based on. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Am I missing something? I didn't know that VIM could do terminal emulation. I think EMACS does, but not VIM. If VIM can, please let me know how.

I like rxvt. I've never used a/eterm, so I don't know how they compare to rxvt, but IME, rxvt is a nice, fast, lightweight terminal window. It's got most of the features of xterm, but with a smaller footprint. I use the default Gnome terminal window at work and it seems to work pretty well, but that's not an apples-to-apples comparison since it's running on a 2.something GHz machine vs. my ancient 700MHz desktop at home.

I *really* don't like konsole because it just seems...sloooooowwwww....to me

But, the last version I've used was Konsole 1.2.3 under Qt 3.2.1 and KDE 3.1.4, so maybe it's improved since.

I use urxvt for quick tasks since it supports true transparency when using XGL. For bigger tasks I use Gnome terminal for it's tab and profile support. Version 2.14.1 uses alot less cpu to display text during compiles

I use Konsole, mainly because I use KDE and Konsole is its default terminal emulator. Not that I know every single feature it offers, but I use it happily ev'ry day.

I usually use Konsole. My computer is fast enough that I don't notice much speed difference between Konsole and other 'lighter' terminal emulators.

I mainly use Konsole. I like the tab feature and the ability to start different types of sessions with just a couple of clicks.

konsole, hands down. for starters, i'm a KDE fan. i love its tabbed approach, but more importantly, the ability to create and store console sessions.

i use xfce's Terminal because its lite and doesn't have a mass of gnome deps, just 1 or 2 small xfce libs.

I use Gnome's desktop environment. However for terminal i use Konsole. Compared to other terminals its enriched with alot more features and also is easy to you.

To me however, the tabs naming feature really helps. Cz this allows me to quickly go to the desired tab when multiple tabs are opened.
