what is the role of /boot/config file?
 
does it have any role in booting and what? does it have any real time realtionship with /etc/modprobe.conf?

It's usually a backup of the config file used to generate your kernel - so if you compile your own kernel & find out that it doesn't work, you can re-compile with the /boot/config file and get a working kernel back.
