A transport in a mapping of an email address (recipient) to a service that transfers the mail. You use a transport when you need to specifically assign how mail for some recipient must be transferred. Here is one example, that maps a mistyped domain name to the error transport: error:Your email address probably has a typo: Did you mean

This transport map entry says, for all email recipients that had "", send to the error transport. The error transport takes an argument, that indicates the error message.

More common uses of transports are to specifically route mail internally, to various mail servers, such as an Exchange server, or Lotus Notes.
