What is the best software for viewing DVDs on SuSE9?
 

I have a laptop with a DVD ROM. I would like play Commercial DVDs on my SuSE Linux, so I can delete Windows 98 off my machine. Playing DVD's is the only reason I keep it around, and the only reason I go into the OS.

I would be willing to purchase a program for under $100 or if there is a free one, that would be great. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but I would be willing to download a program, or order it online.

Does anyone know of any good programs that would fit the bill, and where to get them?:scratch:

don't need to purchase anything. download either ogle, xine, or mplayer. you may already have one or all of these applications provided for you by suse.

Personally I use ogle for watching dvds because it has the menu support. It does the job.

Dear friend..........Its very nice to see someone using the right Flavor to start using Linux.If you are using SuSe 9.0 the greatest resource you have is the tech department straight from Suse themselves.The player that you get from the software package you recieve from the company is great.It is really all you need................If it is an illegal copy or not registered than shame on you .You might as well go rip off Bill befor I help you .The only reason I say this is because even though suSe is now owned by Novell they still need the support to ,make the O/S even better.Thus making open source even better.So lets show some support for the little guys in the market ................OK:tisk: :tisk:

Not sure what you're on about, but I'll try to respond...
The DVD package available in SuSE9 (Xine) is not so great for DVDs as packaged. Legal issues prevent them from including the ability to play encrypted DVDs.

I installed MPlayer from source and it works beautifully.

:twocents: I am a firm believer in purchasing my software. I bought both SuSE 8.2 personal, and SuSE 9.0 Pro.

I have installed them on 4 of my personal computers :D , but I bought them at CompUSA.

My husband has called their Support line, and was impressed by their competence and willingness to help.

I work in Tech Support, and for some reason, I don't use it unless I am completely stumped and have been that way for a good long while.

Then I make my husband call. :D
