What is the best IRC client in Linux? Can someone give me a suggestion?
Hi,
I am new to Linux. For work, I need to use IRC sometime. Can any one tell me what is the best IRC client on Linux? Many thanks. Ray |
Define "best". Personally, I like X-Chat.
|
Depends if you want a gui or command line. I think X-Chat is the best (perhaps only) irc client with a gui. For the command line I prefer irssi.
|
I prefer Irssi as well, it's very powerful and light. It does require a few moments of reading the documentation and is indeed text based (it's IRC after all), which may turn some people off. There's also a nice comparison of IRC clients at Wikipedia.

mIRC under wine ;)
Or XChat. |
Irssi.
Because it supports a nice translating from utf-8 to iso-8859-1 and the other way round. For chat addicts using SILC, ICQ, Jabber and IRC all at the same time: Gaim/Pidgin. |
GAIM/Pidgin/Trillian are great for instant messaging, not so much for IRC.
|
Run irssi in screen and you can log right out of X and reattach it later.

GUI=konversation
text=irssi But it is a matter of personal choice and opinion like asking what distro or any other app is best. |
