What is SCP?

Hi,

I am trying to get the hang of running linux servers and have come across SCP. I know that it can be compared to a secure version of FTP. But my question is how would a go about using it on a server? Is there a SCP daemon, or does SCP simply refer to using FTP though SSH?

I carn't seem to find a great ammount of info, and was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction.

SCP means Secure Copy protocol. It's simply lets you transfer files over a ssh tunnel.

The program used to transfer/get files is named "scp". To know more about how to use it and such, refer to "man scp" or just visit http://www2.yo-linux.com/cgi-bin/man.cgi?topic=scp

You could also check out sftp clients, which are kinda like a frontend to scp and uses the same commands as FTP.
