Question what is GNU/Linux Source Code tivo 5.1 software for?

I bought my buddy a tivo dvr for christmas to replace the old unit that I destroyed, spilt my beer on.

Any way I came across this software 5.1 source at their web site does any one know what it does, more importantly I can't seem to find any documentation at there site on what it is or how to use it.

It does say that it is GNU/Linux Source Code

My guess is that by itself it probably can't do too much wihout some non-free binaries. Have a look at this Slashdot article.

ok I thought it might be usefull, I downloaded it and am reading through the source, I was hoping to be able to connect his tivo to the home network, and share files. I guess I'll need more than just their code.
