what is Gecko

hi,
i want to ask what is gecko and when i run some thing on wine it
start downloading Gecko but it stops and not complete the download.i am
running ubuntu.

Gecko is the engine and is used to parse/render web information on the netscape(?)/mozilla/firefox web browser, and possibly others. Wine uses it to render html where windows programs would use Internet Explorer. And if you use wine to download the gecko engine, and fails, then you must go download it from winehq.org... somewhere. I would explain further, but I gotta go somewhere. Hit up winehq.org and search for gecko it should pop up on the first hit list.

Never mind, I had a little more time and scooped up this.

This is a copy from the howto install Steam from it's database page on Winehq.org:

download wine_gecko.cab to the "/tmp" directory and point Wine to it (save this as-is to the "/tmp/file.reg" then import with command 'regedit /tmp/file.reg':
