What is gconfd-2 and do I need it?
From my searches I think it has something to do with gnome but I dont use gnome. Can I stop it from starting or do I need it running for something else? Thanks.

In debian it's tied to the gnome libraries. I don't have gnome itself but use the libraries for some programs and so I have gconf as well. Is that the daemon of the package? I think it only starts when you start a program that uses the gnome libraries. I have it on sometimes when I do and now I haven't and it's not running.

Oh, So if I am using gedit or Grip I need it? Thanks

it's basically a "registry" for gnome apps. you don't need it for just gtk based apps like that, you'll maybe find that standard font sizes differ when it's not running etc... only smalll things.

So I dont need it running If I am using KDE? I dont use any gnome apps (that i am aware of, lol) on this system. Whenever I do a ps -e I always see gconfd-2 so I have to manually kill it. Thanks.
