What is GCC and how to you install it?

Hi, I'm new to all this stuff. I'm installing a program and it tells me to get a GCC compiler. What is that and how do I uninstall it?

Thanks for any help.

Its a c++ compiler and you need it to compile the source code into a usable program. GCC and Linux is like Windows and IE.

Are you using Suse 9.1 Personal by chance?

Stick with one thread, please. You signed up and

gcc, btw, is NOT the c++ compiler, it's a) the C compiler,
or b) the GNU Compiler Collection ...

And looking at the original post you don't miss
the compiler but the linux kernel headers, which
is a whole different kettle of fish.

Cheers,
Tink
