what is devel, silc, tcl??? (newbie)

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this bothers you (that I am so stupid or something like that...),
but I would like to know what devel, silc and tcl means.

It has appeared quite a number of times on those rpm packages that I would like to install on my Linux platform.

For example:

gaim-0.80-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm
gaim-devel-0.80-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm
gaim-silc-0.80-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm
gaim-tcl-0.80-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm

Thank you very much.

chis :)

devel is header files for if you wanted to compile plugins for it.

silc is some new protocol silc.org i think

tcl is presumably a tcl (a programming language) interface for the Gaim API.

Thx for the reply,

So...
Would you mind explaining when I need to dl those rpm packages (devel, silc, tcl)?

I presume that (taking Gaim for example) that dl "gaim-0.80-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm" would suffice. Is that true?

Thx once again.

I would usually get the the main file and the developement headers.
SILC is encrypted IM protocol.
