what is an "Error 24"?
Not being able to boot, i did a partition check on my Mepis Linux. at the end it said run "fsck /dev/sda1" (without the -a,-e options) in the root terminal and when it finished, it said it was "clean".
i rebooted and 3 lines into the boot i get a "error 24" and no bootup. what the heck is this? i've googled but am not finding the answer.....
-----------------------------------------
here is my menu.lst:
timeout 15
color cyan/blue white/blue
foreground ffffff
background 0639a1
gfxmenu /boot/grub/message
title MEPIS at sda1, kernel 2.6.15-1-586tsc
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-586tsc root=/dev/sda1 nomce quiet vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-586tsc
title Windows at hda1
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
title MEMTEST
kernel /boot/memtest86.bin
------------------------------------
since i'm using a Sata drive as a totally seperate physical drive for Linux(sda1), does that line at "rootnoverify (hdo,0) have anything to do with it????? thx again....

You have to tell GRUB where the kernel is.
title MEPIS at sda1, kernel 2.6.15-1-586tsc
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-586tsc root=/dev/sda1 nomce quiet vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-586tsc

your saying put "root (hd1,0)" instead of "rootnoverify (hd0,0)"?
Any way, i gave up before trying that. SOOO, i re-installed the CD again and that worked.(although i must've tried re-installing it 5 times to get to that point). I have lost all my basic settings in Kontact,Bookmarks in Firefox, shortcuts, thunderird mail address's. although my home directory is intact. which sucks cause i need my Mepis linux settings, not the files i already have backups to.
do ya know if any of these basic settings are in my home directory---or just hiding somewhere? thx....

all the settings in your home directory are found in hidden directories, in linux a hidden dir is preceded with a . (ex, /home/you/.mozilla will gave your's mozilla settings.
