What is a good free video editor?
 

I am a :newbie: and need help with the following:
What is a good video editing program thats opensource or free? :confused:
I'll be needing it for editing AVI and MPG files between 1MB-1GB. Something that lets you set audio bit-rate, frames per sec., quality, the works.
Any answers will be apreciated.

VirtualDub is awesome. Unfortunately, it's for Windows only. Really, Windows have better software when it comes to encoding audio/video.

I've tried VirtualDub, but it just does not work for me. To complicated (in my humble opinion), and i did not like the iterface. By the way, as you said, it's only for M$win.

can anyone sujest a linux editor that is close im comparison to Adobe Premier(sp?) 6.5 not Pro. do not like Pro, but love 6.5

sadly the only system i had that was really beafy enough to run Premier on is not 100% linux *cheers yeah for me* but means i can no longer edit any of my movies off of my miniDV.

talk about a heavy editor... i am hoping it will work for smaller stuff on a much less robust system then a dual CPU with 4G ram.

4GB is not what I have, only 512MB (notice the difference:cool: ). It looks cool and all, BUT its req. are WAY to high.
