What does rc.firewall do?
I am making a server running slackware 12.1 as my OS. I have installed apache web server, squid, and finally dansguardian as my filter. I beleive I have done everything correct I have apache, squid, and dansguardian all starting as daemons. I also have the ./config files edited. So I think I am almost done setting up my server. By the way I have access to a server that is already configured correctly. So this is where I am right now, I set up dansguardian.conf made f2,f3,f4 and made the filter groups. Then I went to the directory /etc/rc.d and looking at the machine already configured I noticed there is a rc.firewall and a rc.dhcpd file there and there executable. My question is do I make this file myself using the touch command, then use my text editor of choice and right the script for the rc.firewall? Or do I use some command to make the rc.firewall and rc.dhcpd? Maybe I am lost and just do not relize it yet!

rc.firewall and rc.dhcpd are, respectively, the script to init the firewall and the dhcp daemon. You can edit them as you wish, with your favourite text editor.
If you are setting up a server, without a firewall before it, you'd better set up a simple script inside the rc.firewall file.
Good luck!

Not exactly the answer I am looking for. This server is just a test server that I am making. My question was that do I make those files myself rc.firewall and rc.dhcpd to match the already configured server?
Manually using the touch command and then making them executable with chmod?
thanks for the reply V0D

Usually, the NetFilter library (for the firewall) is preconfigured in the kernel and Iptables is preinstalled in the system. If the "iptables" command in the shell returns an unknown command message, you have to check netfilter is installed in the kernel and, after this, you'll have to install the iptables package.
When you have installed dhcpd and iptables (if it wasn't), you can manually edit the rc.* files as you want. Note that they are scripts and not the config files.
