What does apsfilter do (or not)?
I've been fighting, or perhaps procrastinating, my printer setup for a week. Slack 8.1, Canon S630 (color bubblejet). Ran apsfilter, able to print apsfilter script test page. KDE applications can also print. Nothing else, e.g. openoffice and mozilla. Signal is sent to the printer (light flashes), but no printing. Attempted to alter print command in other applications to "kprinter", which indeed invokes the k print manager, but then comes up with the error "Can't print from STDIN"
So, what is aspfilter doing? Filtering postscript, I take it. STDIN is a c input function, so is kprinter trying to send something to stdin, then sent to the driver, which doesn't know what to do with stdin. Or do I have it backward (sideways, upsidedown, like it says, I'm a newbie).
Anyway, linuxprinting.org has cups, lpr and two other drivers to install for a printer "like" mine. Is there any way to avoid this?
Thanks.
