What do these kernel arguments mean?

When I started using linux I have known that there is some arguments which we can pass to linux kernel during boot time.
However, I still know nothing about the meaning of these arguments.
I only know that ro means read only
So let share your knowledge. List some of common arguments and define it.

The kernel is the base of any operating system. I can't give you a real definition of exactly what it is b/c I don't know, Windows has one too, it's just that in Linux you can edit and customize it to fit you.
