What do i need to do to compile k9copy?

Hello guys. I'm in need for a good program to make dvd backups. I've used k9copy in the past and found it exceptional. I'm using Slackware 14 and k9copy is not in the repository or on Slackbuilds. I am aware that development is discontinued, and i've tried an alternative, dvd:rip, but i just don't like it. I think it's overly complicated. I would like to run k9copy again. I've downloaded the source code, but i'm lost from there. There's no make file. I'm aware that many kde programs use cmake, but i don't have any idea how to use cmake, and the readme file didn't help me at all, this is all it says.

!!!!!ATTENTION!!!!!

Before starting the build you may need to setup the KDE4 environment variables.
To do this open Project->Project Options and then look at the "Run" and the "Make"
pages. Each of these two has an environment variables widget in which you have
to fill in the right values for the variables already listed.

After setting up the variables you'll also need to run cmake inside the build
directory. This can not be done by kdevelop as a KDE4 environment is needed
when running cmake to find KDE4. Open the integrated konsole and change to the build
subdirectory. Then setup a KDE4 environment and run "cmake ../".

More information how to setup a KDE4 development environment can be found on
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Star...4_with_Scripts
Can someone please help me get this program compiled.

Hello, Knightron.

I tried Slackware several years ago, and it seemed to me rather CLI-heavy, and short on explanations, so I'm Slackware-ignorant. Haven't had much luck with KDE help-files, either. I'm completely unfamiliar with K9copy, also, but if development is truly discontinued, why not look around for a replacement? An old, unmaintained program may be missing libraries and/or dependencies on a newer distro. It may not be as simple as just compiling the one program.

I've had good luck with Brasero (GNOME-based), and even better luck with K3B (KDE-based). I always change my burning software to K3B. Slackware has both packages available, I see. You might want to give them a try.

K3B was user-friendly from the first, has a full GUI interface, including drag-and-drop, and if you open an ISO file by right-clicking, and choosing "open with" > K3B, it spits out the MD5 sum of the image at the bottom of the program's top left window; that saves a step. I also got usable burns out of K3B years ago when I had a CD burner that was in the process of dying. No other burner program was working, at all.

So, if either K3B or Brasero work for you, it might save you an awful lot of time. You might find this link useful, too:

Good luck!

I have tried to burn dvds with k3b before, but didn't think was able to. I looked for guides and everything and couldn't find any. Are you sure you can burn movies with k3b?

(I think i should make it clear i mean dvd movies)
