Check out distrowatch
Google
Use the almost-unknown search feature on this messageboard, hidden very cleverly in the above menubar with the name "Search" (the admins here are sneaky like that - I can very easily see why you couldn't manage to find the amazing search feature!)

Any one of those methods will return countless reviews and comparisons of the various distributions.

And to answer your question: ANY distribution will be fine. Just don't install KDE or Gnome and all of the eye candy features - do a minimal desktop install and add apps/libraries as you need them. Keep transparency turned off. Turn off font antialiasing features, don't let MySQL, Sendmail, Apache, start by default, etc. etc.

YMMV, Batteries Not Included, No Warranty Expressed, Written, or Implied. These Limitations Apply To Everybody. This Post Not To Be Used To Run Life Support Devices Or To Control Heavy Machinery.

If you follow the link provided here (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=419576) you get to an article about Linux on older hardware. It seems that 16 MB could be too less memory, but I can't tell this from personal experience.

I agree, go with damn small linux. But I hope you don't plan on doing much with a GUI. If you do I'd start with Fluxbox. Its probably the best suited for older hardware.
