what db engine to choose

hi ppl, i need some techinical help

i has asked to write a small app that receives data thru a bluetooth device, saves it in a database and from time to time send the data stored in the database to another computer via a GPRS/wi-fi/ethernet connection.
the app that i'll write is to be runnned in a embedded device with linux in it. so disk space is precious in that device, so the database engine can't be big. the databse itself will no be big, say 1 MB at most. CPU will be a 300mhz via Geode
only one app will access the database so, the concurrency problems do no apply to my case.

i'm going to write the program in C so my big question is: what database engine should i choose?

i saw berkeley db and thought that that's what i wanted, but then i saw sqlite and is smaller and (apparently) faster... I don't know what to choose and besides, i need some technical reasons for my choice. I mean what ever database i choose, i have to demonstrate that database is better then the others.

please throw me a bone here and help me

I remember when I was using familiar (http://familiar.handhelds.org) on my IPAQ handheld (with 32MB memory no less), the package managers chose sqlite. I don't know anything about it, but if it was chosen to run on a handheld it must be good in small places.
