What can xorg do for me?

I have a laptop I just installed Ubuntu on, everything works fine. What I want to know is, what can I do with the screens in xorg? I have an s-video out and an analog monitor output, I set my xorg config for dual head. Is there a way I can activate and deactivate screens in xorg, for example if I plug a monitor into my laptop, is there a means of activating the analog port so that I can go into dual head mode without having to restart Xorg? And is there a similar means of working with s-video output, which is supported by the driver? Just how dynamic can xorg be?

You can use different serverlayouts for you X instances.

But as I see you need to turn off Xorg and then launch it again to switch between them.

Myself got

Layout : Single (Just my Belinea monitor)
Layout : Dual ( NEC + Belinea )
Layout : TV ( Belinea + TV )
