What are NFS and autofs?

I was, in the past one day, trying to find out how to use NFS, and upon Googling, found a page with lots of autofs stuff on it.

So I wanna know: NFS is the thing that lets you mount remote drives and make it available to *your* filesystem, right?
And autofs is the thing that, when that particular directory is accessed, does the NFS mounting automatically? (this is truly awesome!)
Can anyone confirm this?

Thx.

Seriously, what's with all the unresearched questions this morning?

Yes that's ONE of the things that autofs does. No it's not awesome, it's just some software.
