What's the use of Sun Java?

Hi LQ experts, good day.

Everytime I visit messenger.chikka.com and click the Launch chikka blah blah, it will require Sun Java. I already installed the Sun Java.

Question:
1. What's the use of Sun Java in the internet?

As what I have understood, some websites uses Java language that's why we need Sun Java. Am I right? Just correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks and God bless.

That's kind of like saying "What the use of Ruby in the internet? Only some programs are written in it...".

Java is a development language...servlets and applets for web sites are only a small portion of what can be done with it. Resin/Tomcat are Java enabled web servers, purpose built to serve up java pages more quickly. Programs like Azureus or Frostwire/Limewire are written totally in Java, for Linux.

If you're asking how to use java in a browser, usually it's enough to go into the preferences for your browser and enable java. If you're asking me to go to that site and click - no thanks. I don't know the site and am not interested in finding out what it is.
