what's a small and quick program for editing mostly text with few images?
I keep a journal, and normally, I keep it strictly text and use a simple text editor (KWrite or Leafpad) to write in it. I definitely don't want to use a word processor as big and slow as LibreOffice for that (it amazed me when I saw a student using Microsoft Word to take notes in an English course), and probably not anything else big enough to be called a "suite" or part thereof). Occasionally I wish I could put pictures in my journal without compromising the speed and simplicity of the text editor too much. What programs are a step above text editors but still far below LibreOffice? The compromise I normally make that allows me to stick with a text editor is to store the images separately in the same folder.

You may want to try Abiword, it is relatively small and usually what is used in lightweight distributions instead of one of the office suites.

Another possibility:

It's definitely light, and it has an image plugin to display images. It is a bit too light for me, but it is right above a text editor. Abiword is closer to Libreoffice than a text editor, but is also an option.

I know of Abiword, but had forgotten it. PW is intriguing; I'll try it. (Even if its full name makes it and its creator look ridiculous. Who calls their own product "Pathetic"?)
