Connection timed out.
Does your connection works?
Can you ping www.wordpress.org ?
What happens if you put

http://www.wordpress.org/latest.zip
in your browser ?

I cannot ping: it shows once,
[sumesh@saha ~]$ ping www.wordpress.org
PING wordpress.org (72.233.56.139) 56(84) bytes of data.
and then nothing..so I guess it is not pinging..

My browser works...the second command you suggested, when i put, downloads the file!!!!

Thanks

Try this:

wget --proxy=<proxy address> <url to wget>

This worked a lot of times for me.

Probably the firewall is blocking ping

Realised that my firewall was already disabled.

Perhaps there is a firewall in the router.

Will I be able to find it out? I am working on a LAN connection and none around me face such issues. Could it still be related to router? What do you think?
