WGET dies after closing Telnet


Hey im building a download manager for my NAS which uses a desktop application to telnet and WGET downloads to the NAS .

The problem is once the telnet session is closed i cannot pause and resume the download process wget simply opens a new session .

Is there any way to telnet back into the WGET session i started eirler ?

you can use
wget foo &
to put wget in the background

well when i telnet

wget http://mirror.dxalpha.co.uk/TheNamelessMod.exe &

close telnet and open it again i get a new session of wget not my previous one . I cant pause or resume the download after i close the telnet session

Hi,
You can try with 'screen' is a program to run multiple sessions on
on screen, it works something like:

screen wget http://........

- Press Ctrl-A-D to detach the session, you can then close your
telnet and when you telnet again, use screen -r to reattach
the previous screen, your wget should be there if it has not finished.

That seems to be perfect but screen isnt included in my NAS , Is there anywhere i can download an ARM version of he executible ?

Hi,

You should post the NAS model/manufacturer and the distro/version of linux
that your NAS machine is running, maybe someone with a similar equipment
can help you to locate a installer for screen.

In any case, screen is a simple program, it should be easy to compile
it in your NAS.
