wget continuation problem

i have been using wget fro m the past one week.i have begun to realise its advantage over a conventional GUI download manager..but i've been facing a slight the manuals its given that if i need to continue a previously halted download..i can simply type the following at the console..

wget -c URL

but when i do so..the entire file is getting downloaded starting from 0kb there any way to discontinue a download and start the download of rremaining portion of the file after some time?

make sure that you are downloading from the directory where the previously downloaded FILE_PART lies.
