Weird KDE behavior - Session Disappeared

HI all

I am using Kubuntu 11.10 x64 on Dell Laptop. Its working fine when all of a sudden all my open windows disappear and I am left on a barren desktop with the default wallpaper.

I try switching workspaces but nothing. I log out , and I get a glimpse of my open windows for a half-a-second before I am logged out, but logging back in - still no change. Rebooting doesnt help either.

I checked with ps -ef and I can see my processes from the previous session are running ( KDE restarts all open windows ( chromium, bash, okular)

Please help.
