Weird behaviour on wine-4.0 (Staging)
I had to recreate ~/.wine, as thye one thing I wanted was going AWO0L, and didn't reinstall correctly. Below is the terminal output for that. Now wine always huffs and puffs when you do that, but the end of it worries me. Is this ok?
Code:
bash-5.0$ winemine |
Went the slow way about solving this
First I reinstalled, but that didn't work out well. I had more confidence in a backup than in the reinstall, so I went for the backup. That seems to have sorted it. |
I'm sorry you ran into a major problem. I have tried getting wine to do tricky things but since I don't actually know what I'm doing, I've given up and reinstalled. Congratulations on a successful backup and restore from backup!
Is it possible that you did not properly clean up all of the wine assets before your reinstall? Maybe it uses a process that checked the existence of /usr/lib/wine/system32/inmm32.dll, and since it was there from a previous install, it didn't lay down the good one you actually wanted? |
I did do a 'rm -rf wine.' which usually clears the lot up.
I have several software copies of the one thing I use under wine, a library type program. I can't get this singing from the software, which is irritating. I've reinstalled wine, cleared the app, installed it where it wasn't before (another user I had lying about on this system) but only the backup of /home works, I can't reinstall. I'm convinced now that post #1 actually highlighted a problem. Right now, I'm upgrading to wine-4.0.1 which is the stable version of 4.0 which I was using. Just running through a build of 64 & 32 bit versions, as I have full multilib here. I'm going to hope that corrects it This is a 32bit program, so I built 64bit, installed to a $DESTDIR, I had the libs in ~lib64, and put the binaries in ~bin64. Then I'm installing over with 32bit versions. The 32bit libs are in ~lib, the 32bit binaries are in ~bin. So I'll eventually remove ~bin64, with extra 64bit binaries in ~bin. That will probably favour 32bit. I have installs in VMs, and may otherwise be driven into them if my backup fails. |
