website content systems

Lately I've started to build my own site. I got a Clarkconnect gateway running which can be used to run a website aswell. I installed mySQL, php and everything that's needed for a webstie including a forum.

Since it's kinda hard for a newbie I'd like to use a website content system like xoops (its called I think) or slash or mamboserver orpostnuke or .....you name em.

How to choose? I have no clue what to look for. Clark runs on Redhat so perhaps one is easier to install then the other. I'm not using a gui on my server so would it be hard to get this stuff running?

I'm building my own gateway on debian so it should work on debian aswell since I'm switching in a few months to my own gateway (if it all works )

Anyone using one of the packages?

Regards

EASY

It's alright when configuring the portal packages Xwindows just gets in the way. You end up doing most of it from a terminal anyway.

I am partial to postnuke - setup is simple extract the tar make sure all of the file permissions are set *mostly just making sure directories are viewable from the web.

I would say for most packages making sure you have mysql and php setup properly is the most bothersome if anything. as far as setting up the websites I know at least with most you create a mysql database with a user for the page some packages have you edit a settings file while most newer portal packs just have you run an install.php from the web browser and they walk you through everything.

All in all the developers make it as painless as possible so you use their package.
