webserver config problem

I think I am facing a config problem

I am runing rh9 kernel 2.4.20-8

I have the apache web server with php and mysql support installed on two machines
I think the installations are identical but apparantely not so as on one machine when I run a php code running off mysql with username and password I need to enter username and password for each protected feature, since somehow it is not remebered.
On the other machine it runs fine.

where could the problem be

register_globals is on on both php.ini files.

sounds like a sessions issue. Is the code identical and PHP versions the same for each page?
