Webmail setup problem in Thunderbird - Hotmail and Yahoo setup
My request to the Moderator :
I want to mention here that I had put up this question in other section of this Forum. I waited for someone to reply but I got no help till now. As I am looking for an early solution, I am putting this up here in the hope of a reply. So in a way this is a duplicate thread. I think I can not move the old one to this section, otherwise I would have done that. So I request the Moderator to please bear with me and allow this thread to be here. You can surely remove the old thread which has not been replied from the newbie section (Link : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...26#post2773226) -------------------------------------------------- As I needed my Free Hotmail and Yahoo mail to work in Thunderbird I installed the webmail, hotmail and yahoo extensions. I set them up as per the instruction in webmail site. Now the problem is the extension is not working. Must be I have made some error in setting things up. I am getting "Sending of username did not succeed. Mail server localhost responded: yahoo.com is a unsupported domain". My setup details are : ------------------------------------- The details are Webmail - 1.2.1 (latest) Webmail Hotmail - 1.2.0 (latest) Webmail Yahoo - 1.2.0 (latest) All the three extensions are running. For Webmail my settings are : Pop : 1111 SMTP : 1112 IMAP : 1027 --------------------------------- => All three running (Green light is on). But when I click the Domain tab in Webmail Options, there is no domain showing up. => In the Hotmail and Yahoo options also I can see the list of domains but when clicking on Accounts tab it says "No Hotmail Accounts found" or "No Yahoo Accounts found". => I have setup my Yahoo and Homail accounts as "Webmail" in the type of accounts. I chose "Email account" to start with, but I was getting "Could not connect to server localhost, connection refused". Please help me. |
First of all I do not think I can solve your problem with Thunderbird webmail as I never even new it existed until I read your post. However, I access my Yahoo account via Thunderbird as a normal POP account.
POP3 setting is pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk SMTP is smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk |
Thanks for your suggestions. I tried with the settings that is working with you. But I believe the difference is for FREE accounts (which I am using) direct POP3 access is off for quite sometime now. So webmail extension is just a workaround.
May be there are some other workarounds which I am not aware off. Thanks. |

Take a look here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mai...op/pop-08.html It is the setup for Outlook Express but it is basically the same. |
I tried again with the settings you have provided. It didn't worked. As my domain is yahoo.com may be that is the reason it is not working.
Anyway in the meantime I have found some other extension which is working fine with yahoo. Presently I am facing problem to download the Hotmail. May be that will also be solved. Thanks for your suggestions. |
I had tried the Webmail extension many months ago, and couldn't get it working - so I installed Freepops, which worked fine (for yahoo; I don't have a Hotmail account, so I can't vouch for it.)
Code:
http://www.freepops.org/en/ I know this doesn't help you with your Webmail issue, but if you haven't already tried Freepops, you may have some success. |
Thanks for your suggestions mrclisdue. In fact I have also found Freepops and it is working fine for me for the yahoo accounts. But for Hotmail I don't know why it is not working. I would have preferred the webmail extension because it seemed to be a perfect solution, but as the solutions is yet to come so in the meantime Freepops is working great.
Thanks again for your reply. |
How to get WebMail to work
I recently found that the one change to make to make WebMail work is by making the username "something@yahoo.com" and not simply "something" as per the default instructions.
This is how i backup Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, AOL all to Gmail. And then backup a single Gmail account once a month. Dan www.upgradetogeek.com |
