Webdesign
 

I've been experiancing with linux a few months now, my slackware server is running for quite some time. (webserver/mailserver/webmail etc etc).

But offcourse i also want to use linux for a client. The most programs i use on this XP machine are also available (meaning: different programs but with the same functionality) on linux.

I just need a better Webdesigning tool than the one that default comes with slackware. Of course I could search the web for tools but this forum usualy gives the best answer to my questions ;)

What webeditor do you use ?

(I make pages mainly in HTML, i also use PHP, and now and then i make some Flash movies) (Right now i am using Namo Webeditor (simple but effective) and Macromedia Dreamweaver) for the HTML pages and Notepad.exe :P for the PHP -scripting and off course Macromedia Flash for the Flash movies)


What's your advice ?

Whats the default one that comes with Slackware? Quanta is probably the best there is out there closely followed by Bluefish.

The default in Slackware is Quanta, and i must say after working again with it, a half our or so, it isn't that bad. (all about getting used to it i guess)

Are there also macromediaflash-like tools available for Linux ?

I don't really like flash, so never use it in any webpages I develop/design. If you do a search you may find something, if not and you really need flash on Linux, I think you can install it (and dreamweaver) using Crossover Office.

I trie to aviod flash as much as possible, i definitly don't like to base a whole webpage on flash but some features in flash (comibined with Swift 3D (really nice tool)) you can easily make some moving 3D thingies. I usually just use it to make a nice little logo for a website as i did with http://www.peterstransportveghel.nl

I'll see if i can find someting , and post it here if it's usefull.

Kedit is the tool for me :D

But, since I never do much web design in Linux, I use a combination of Photoshop and Dreamweaver to design.

"Als dit aanslaat bij de gebruikers van Flash MX, wordt er waarschijnlijk ook een echte Linux-versie van dit programma uitgebracht" aldus Lynch."

Simple translation.:

During the FlashForward conference for users of Macromedia's Flash-format Kevin Lynch of the software department of Macromedia announced that they will soon optimize Flash MX for Wine.

If it's working ok there will also be a linux-verion available..



Oh, and for my picture editing on XP i use Paint Shop Pro (5 and 8) 5 for the speed and the simple editing and 8 (soon 9) for the cool stuff ;)
